POST: Clinical Fellow (ST4+ level or post-CCT) IN INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY (FULL TIME)

Applicants should hold full GMC registration, have at least 3 years’ radiology experience and ideally have obtained all part IIA modules of the FRCR (or equivalent examination). Completion of the FRCR IIb or equivalent would be preferable. An enthusiasm to gain experience in Interventional Radiology as part of a busy IR team in a London Teaching Hospital and Major Trauma Centre is essential.

The post would be ideal for a post CCT IR fellow who wishes to gain a further 6 months experience prior to completion of training.

The post is potentially available from 1st September 2020 until end April 2021 (8 months)

The successful applicants will be based at St George Hospital in South West London which is a major acute London NHS Trust, Major Trauma Centre and tertiary level vascular surgical centre, urology, renal and transplant unit.

The post is for up to 8 supervised sessions in interventional radiology. There would also be the opportunity for up to 2 sessions in CT, MRI, ultrasound or plain film reporting. There is a commitment to the interventional radiology on-call registrar rota, currently non-resident.

The postholder will gain experience in peripheral vascular angioplasty and stenting, complex embolisation, including uterine, gastrointestinal, prostate, renal, venous and varicocele, aortic endoleak, amongst many varied complex interventions. Haemodialysis fistula and central venous intervention and declotting are undertaken. A wide variety of interventional oncology and hepatobiliary procedures are also performed including TACE, microwave liver and lung ablation, renal cryoablation, and TIPSS. A range of complex lymphatic and venous malformations are treated with salivary gland interventions also undertaken. Renal and urological intervention including PCNL is also part of our regular IR practice.

We have a training programme that allows experience within the vascular surgical team and exposure to EVAR and vascular surgery.

We are a BSIR Exemplar Site and hold monthly IR team, research and mortality and morbidity meetings. There is the opportunity to undertake Interventional radiology clinics, manage day case patients, undertake clinico-radiological meetings and MDTs.

We are forming links across a South West London collaborative network, involving our adjacent district general hospitals.

The successful applicant is welcome to attend the regular morning teaching sessions for the pre-final FRCR trainees on this well established, lead provider radiology training scheme. If desired there are opportunities to increase their audit / research experience.

Final salary will be determined by previous years of experience.
